John C. Kornblum

since 1964 in the foreign department of the USA:

Vice-consul at the American consulate in Hamburg (1964),
political officer at the U.S. embassy in Bonn (1969) and a member of the United States delegation to the Four Power negotiations concerning Berlin (1970-1972)
1979-1981 political consultant in the U.S. mission in Berlin
1981 department manager for Central European affairs in the U.S. Foreign Office in Washington

1987 assistant permanent representative of the USA at the NATO in Brussels

1992 US Ambassador to the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE), and chief of the American delegation to the 1992 Helsinki Review Conference.


June 1994 Senior Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Canadian affairs and Assistant Secretary in 1996. During his service at the European Bureau he was one of the architects of the Dayton Peace Agreement and played a key role in conceiving the administration's strategy for a new security structure in Europe.

1997-2001 U.S. ambassador to Germany

2001 president of the German branch office of the international investment bank Lazard.


Currently senior councelor at Noerr Stiefenhofer Lutz (Berlin).
